Q: What do you think it’d be like if Amy were the companion of Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor?
KG: It’d be amazing, I’d really love to work with Peter, although I fear it might be a bit too much Scottishness for one TARDIS!
Q: What do you think of the evolution of Amy Pond and the conclusion of her story? Did you have any say in her character development?
KG: I think Amy is the companion who got the most character development. We follow her story from the beginning to almost the end of her life, and it’s not something that happens with every companion, it was a great privilege and I was very aware and happy about it. I think Amy’s farewell was perfect, in the end she’s reunited with Rory and they’ll probably have a happy life. I didn’t have any say in the development of her character, making decisions about the plot is Steven Moffat’s job and he does it brilliantly, he’s a genius.
Q: How did it feel to leave Doctor Who?
KG: Terrible. Doctor Who is and will always be the best thing I’ve worked on, especially because the fanbase is so passionate and devoted. The last scene was incredibly emotional to shoot. Matt was listening to Close to You by The Carpenters. I was so nervous I started worrying not to be able to give my best performance, it was too important, but as soon as I got on set I burst into tears. Acting wasn’t necessary, the sadness was real.
Q: Can you tell us some anecdotes about your relationship with Matt Smith on the set?
KG: There are just too many. Matt would often hide in my truck with a horn and blow it when I came in to scare me, and it would always scare me to death and make me cry and laugh at the same time. Also, Matt is the clumsiest person I’ve ever known, he broke like 10 sonic screwdrivers during my time on set, the prop guy was so desperate.
